“Next” January 22
Day 16 “Positioning for the “Next”
The life journey for a Christ follower is an adventure when you expectantly allow God to use you for His Glory. Like any great roller coaster though, the tighter you hold on (to God) the smoother the ride. As we prepare our minds and hearts for the “Next” we must first get ourselves in position. Asking the Lord how to position for the “Next”, He has revealed 3 critical areas to me:
First, Keep your eyes on God, who does not change. In Hebrews 12:2 we read: “We look away from the natural realm and fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection. His example is this: Because His heart was focused on the joy of knowing you would be His, he endured the cross and conquered its humiliation and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!”
Secondly, it’s time for an inventory of what needs to go, a sort of Spring cleaning for the soul. Cleaning out all the rooms can be hard work. The temptation to leave that one junk room or closet is great. You know the one, the “what if I need it stuff” or those random doodads that have sentimental feelings attached. Just like there’s no room to remodel if you keep all of the junk, there’s no room for the “Next” if you don’t let some stuff go. Ask God, “What needs to go?” Let it go, let go of the people, places, resentments, things, whatever is blocking the “Next”. God will reveal what needs to go if you sincerely ask. Ask God what He has for you “Next”, not your “Next”, but His “Next” for you. Maybe God is going to resurrect an old dream. Maybe God has something completely radically different.
Lastly, in order to position ourselves for the “Next” we must get in a position of humility. God resists the proud (Ps.75:4) therefore we must walk in humility, putting aside any pride because pride puts itself above the Lord. Jesus, our Savior King came down from His throne to take a position of complete humility. His life is the instruction on how to walk humbly. If we are to serve Him we must walk humbly. (Micah 6:8)
If we really want to be in a position for God’s “Next” we need to focus on Him-keep our eyes upon Him, clean out the rooms of our heart to make room and position ourselves with the humility of a good servant, ready willing and able to glorify the King of Kings and ready to receive His Glory.
