Day 4 “A Look at Why it Has Not Worked”
2 Corinthians 5:16-17; Luke 5:37-39; James 1:7-8
The Apostle Paul tells us that when we become saved and are Christians we no longer regard anyone from a human, 1st life point of view. What? !!! Come on. How many of us do not have any regard for our 1st life and its comforts and want for its successes in this world? How many of us see other people from a spiritual perspective and a 2nd life lens and treat them like Jesus would all the time? Ahahaha to that!
Paul goes on to say that if anyone is a Christian, is in Christ, then he or she is a new creation. Stop! A new creation, as in newly created? Life is now new and to be lived from a new approach and seen from a new lens, and done differently.
He says that the old life has passed away, it has died, and the new life has come. He even uses the word “behold” to emphasize all this as if to say: ”Can’t you see that you now have a new life, a 2nd life, and the old one is dead and gone?”
So why does spiritual life not work for us? Because we are trying to live a new life, 2nd life, kingdom life, in Jesus, from an old life, 1st life, earthly life, pattern trying to bring Jesus into where we are to bless us.
Luke 5:33-36 tells us you cannot put old and new together. You cannot put new wine into old wineskins/containers. You cannot put your 2nd life spiritual experience (new wine) with God into a 1st life container (old wineskin). It will not work! It will not hold the new and it will cause the old to fail! That’s scary to me. Paul even goes on to say that people will say that the old is good enough. Wow that is scary too! If there is no new life container there is no new life with Jesus.
It is double-minded. James the brother of Jesus says it is like trying to live in 2 worlds! Expecting new while living in old ways. James 1:7-8 says that a double-minded person is unstable in all they do and should expect nothing from God.
Thought: Out with the old life and in with the new life! Get rid of the 1st so the 2nd can thrive! Lets prepare the way for the new and the next with Jesus!
