From the beginning, God prepared a tangible place for His people. He prepared a Garden in Genesis, He prepared the promise land of Canaan to the Israelites in Deuteronomy. God gave instructions to Adam and Moses concerning the land, they were to tend it, take dominion in it, possess it, build on it, and meet him in it.
Duet.11:12 says, “The land is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.”
Doesn’t that sound like our lives in Christ. We have mountains and valleys, but the Lord continually sends provision and refreshment from heaven to us. The encouragement that God never takes His eyes off of us, caring for us and our land.
I believe the land in the Scripture represents a place where we meet with God. Today we may not have a real garden that we walk in or own a city, but we have hearts and lives that He comes into and makes His home in us.
Our land can get polluted, our land can get over-populated, our land can be full of idols, our land can be a haven for God and others, our land can be at peace or at war. Our land can be fruitful or barren. Our land can be a desert or a garden. Our land can have many Kings or just One. Our land can be sick or well.
Our lives and hearts are our land. And we were called to tend to our land. We are to be aware that are hearts are the soil and what are the seeds that are growing in our lives (Luke 8). Have you checked your land/garden lately?
In Song of Solomon, chapter 2 God admonishes us to catch the little foxes that ruin our vineyards/land. He knows that the enemy is always trying to mess with our hearts and lives. But God is saying here that WE are to deal with the things that are trying to wreak havoc.
God has chosen our hearts as His dwelling place and He desires for it to be a place where we are fruitful and alive and well. A place that has not been polluted by cultural ideals and idols.
Ask Holy Spirit today to show you any area that needs tending in your land. Are there any enemies that need to be kicked out? Any foxes?
Any area of your land that has been polluted? What areas of your land need pruning?
What areas of your land need to be watered (refreshing)?
Use this time of prayer and fasting to ask the Holy Spirit to go deeper, & talk to Him about what He wants to plant next in your land.
