Day 12 “Souls”
Jesus began and ended His ministry with one obsession: SOULS. He descended on this Earth for the sake of souls. He walked this planet with the desire to reach His lost creation. He died the worst possible death so that we would have a chance at eternal life. Jesus even worked miracles so people would believe in Him. Jesus was all about souls. For Him, spending eternity with His creation was worth His sacrifice.
This begs the question: Do we have a similar emphasis to Christ on reaching souls? Do we think about how we are going to reach people? Do we plan or pray about how we may serve God?
Sure, we attend church and outreach activities, but are we individually seeking new souls? We will be judged individually by God, not corporately with other members of the church. How far have you gotten in achieving the goal God has set for you? Do you know what goals God has set for your life? Draw near and ask Him.
In this new year, let’s do as Christ. Let’s LOVE souls. Let’s eat, breathe, and think about how we will expand His kingdom. How will you help spread the good news to those who are lost? With that in mind, I’d like to draw your attention to two critical portions of the Word: Matthew 28:19 and James 1:22-25.
Matthew 28:19 gives us our primary responsibility as Christians: making disciples in all nations. We are to be ambassadors of the good news. Are we ambassadors for Christ? James 1:22-25, using the imagery of a mirror, talks about how we should be reflections of the Word. We must be able to look at the Word and find its principles in our lives.
Is the Great Commission a key component of your walk with Christ? Do you talk about Christ to others? Do you invite people to church? In my trips to Africa, I have met incredible Christians who understood their Matthew 28:19 responsibility. In Ghana, I met a former Muslim-turned-Christian woman who outreached to fellow Muslim females understanding that she would be beaten by her Muslim husband. In Uganda, I met a pastor who made it a point to wake up every morning at 4:45 AM to beat the 5:00 AM Muslim call to prayer. Before Muslims make their call, this pastor wakes up and preaches the Word on his megaphone. In the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, I had an opportunity to preach while government troops shot at protestors 100 feet away. I was shocked that the congregants around me braved these conditions and the threat of Ebola.
Pastor Bill has preached on The Uprising becoming an Acts church. The Acts church sent disciples to spread the Word. Participate in a short-term mission trip, offer to teach a bible study or volunteer at a shelter. Let’s heed Christ’s command and seek to become soul winners for Christ in 2019. Let’s help the widow and orphan. Seek to help fellow Christians who are persecuted in foreign countries. By supporting the persecuted with your prayers, your finances, and perhaps, a trip, you are helping to keep souls in the Kingdom. Be active in your faith. Let’s show our faith in our actions and be reflections of God’s love for human souls. Work for the lost, the widows, the orphans, the persecuted, and let’s make God smile this next year.
